Marcian CIRSTEA has completed his PhD (1996) at Nottingham Trent University, UK, after receiving a degree in electrical engineering (1990) from Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania. He is Professor of Industrial Electronics (2007) and currently Head of Department (since 2004) of Computing and Technology at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, UK, after previously working for De Montfort University, UK. Professor Cirstea’s expertise is in digital controllers for power electronics. With 23 years of academic experience, he has published 1 research monograph, 1 text book, several laboratory guides and over 130 peer reviewed papers (3 with awards). He has delivered 6 international tutorials on FPGA Design for Power Electronics Control, has coordinated an European renewable energy project consortium, has supervised 10 research degrees and examined 16. General Chair of 5 IEEE conferences, he is also founder/past Chairman of the 'Electronic Systems on Chip' Technical Committee of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) and Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics / Informatics. He is currently also Vice-President for Membership Activities in IEEE IES (since 2013).
